Swing/Jazz/Gypsy Swing Mandolin Workshop 4/18/10If you're a mandolin player and in the San Francisco Bay Area on the weekend of April 18, check this out: Basic Swing/Jazz/Gypsy Swing Mandolin Workshop Sunday April 18, 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Freight & Salvage, Berkeley.
We'll explore basic "swing/jazz" mandolin chords, chord comps or rhythm on the mandolin, and some great “must-know” Swing & Gypsy Swing standards! You'll learn a variety of moveable, closed position chords useful in all styles of swing and jazz. We'll get you jammin'! We'll also work on adding that swing feel into our rhythm or "comp."
All levels welcome but you should be familiar with major, minor, and seventh chords on the mandolin and be able to read chord diagrams. We'll provide sheets with songs and chords, excerpts from Dix’s latest books and DVDs on the subject. The most important pre-requisite is an interest in playing Swing and Gypsy Swing!
Depending upon the skill levels of attendees, we may also explore more advanced subjects like chord subsitutions, transposing chords and melodies to different keys, and playing in octaves.
